Nomadisism. We all need an "ism" under which to shelve ourselves. Here's to being nomadic.
Manhattan, NY. The place of my birth. We visited in late May.
Idyllwild, CA. I worked as the gallery assistant for two months at the Idyllwild Arts Summer Program. The summer was chock-full of adult art, poetry and music residencies which I reaped the full benefits of.
Monterey, CA. A week with friend and fellow artist Jamie Uretsky in her hometown. Monterey is beautiful, a mountain/beach local and complete with wonderful coffee joints; a favorite was ACME, a tiny, non-corporate place run by muscular, tattooed men who make the most beautiful espresso. The jellyfish at the Monterey Aquarium are all consuming.
September fourth I fly out of San Diego for Madrid where I will be living and making work for the next year. The website will be running soon and this blog-space will function as an in studio update of research, readings and recent work. The three blessed R's. A large amount of time is spent in solitude when one is wandering, unknown, from place to place. I am nervous and lonely but stepping. We'll see how this unfolds together.
"Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string. Accept the place the divine providence has found for you, the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events...You will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it. It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinions; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude." from Self-Reliance, Emerson.
