Back to the grindstone-classes began this past Wednesday. My Contemporary Art Trends class has already taken a museum trip to see a Mary Heilmann exhibit, which was fantastic. Heilmann was painting in the late 70's-present day, a Californian transplanted to New York City immediately following her graduation from UCSB. A female painting in soft-geometric abstraction with a bold/bright Californian palette, in the wake of all those AbExpressionist males. She's fascinating.
Another exhibition was up in the next gallery specifically focusing on Californian artists..Pop, Assemblage, Environmental, Installation, Conceptual...my poor brain. It's good to be back in academia.
